Aboriginal Cultural Tours and Bush Food Experience

I just wanted to let you how much we enjoyed our cultural immersion day last week. We bought along a large group of 35 staff that included the RBWH Executive and the Reconciliation Action Plan working group; without exception everyone has feedback positive reviews. It was an absolute please to have you all be a part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations. Our staff really enjoyed participating in the activities and I’m pleased that we have been able to educate them about Aboriginal culture in such an engaging way. It was a wonderful experience and we all learned more about Aboriginal culture and history, as well as having a lot of fun finding local bush tucker, starting the fire, weaving and throwing the boomerang. Hi Nick, I know that I speak for all the participants when I say that yesterday was a very rewarding experience and one that we hope to repeat with other participants in the future. The Nudgee waterhole was a great venue and your coordination of the fox, python, turtles and birds was truly amazing!! Seriously thought please pass on our sincere thanks to Uncle Bill and Aunty Pearl, James and Madonna and all the other participants for sharing their stories which enlightened the Monadelphous people as to the struggles that they faced as children and as they moved into adulthood. I did have a quick word with the chef to thank him for the magnificent lunch that he prepared for us. It was very special and sets a standard that will be hard to match.

We really appreciated how you were able to create a personal and genuine atmosphere throughout the tour. It will be one of the experiences that stands out when we look back on our Australian adventure! Thanks for a great day!

Thank you so much for Thursday. Class 4 were talking about it all day Friday and when we went to do our recount, between them all they remembered every detail of what you taught them. We really enjoyed the tour and have recommended it to other class teachers at school. It was incredibly informative. On Friday the children were searching the school grounds for bullrush so they could make some more rope. I told them I would take them to the creek near school next Friday so they could try and find some. They now want to plant it in the pond near the classroom. You mentioned on Thursday you had a list of the words from the local language. When you had a chance, would it be ok if you sent it to me? I would love to incorporate it into what we are learning.

Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you, on behalf of Ruth and myself, for your part in our Year 10 Beyond Borders Immersion. School Tour The gentle presence and wisdom brought to our time together by James, Madonna, Issac and Serrayah ensured that our young men of Terrace heard firsthand the history of indigenous culture in and around Brisbane. The voices of the peoples that have gone before us spoke loud and clear. I just wanted to give a big thank you to to Madonna and her children, for a fantastic tour last week. Our jarjums loved the experience and have been relaying, in great detail, the cultural knowledge that they have gained. They felt connected, and enjoyed learning more about the culture and practises of their ancestors. I would highly recommend this tour to all schools, due to the implementation of the Yuggera Language, cultural knowledge and the emphasis on sustainability and caring for country.
